Helen LaFleur

Helen (Myrick) LaFleur of East Vassalboro, Maine, died Nov. 4, 2025, in Augusta at the age of 90. Born Nov. 16, 1934, in Medford MA, to Kenneth and Hester Myrick, she grew up in a busy household with her siblings, the late Katherine Mulher, the late Allen Myrick, and Deborah (Debbie) Martin.

Helen grew up an avid reader in a book loving household. Her father was a professor of Shakespeare at Tufts University, and Helen never went anywhere without a book. She was particularly fond of Jane Austen and British mysteries, as well as their depictions on PBS Masterpiece. She also loved gardening and music, especially singing, and playing the piano and the recorder in several groups.

Helen graduated from Tufts University in 1956 with a B.A. summa cum laude in English, and from Columbia University in 1958 with an M.A. in International Relations.

Helen married The Reverend Kenneth Gordon LaFleur in 1961. They served UU Churches in Wayland MA, and Old Ship Church in Hingham MA. They retired to the village of East Vassalboro ME, where Kenneth had grown up, in 1984. Kenneth died in 2015.

Helen leaves beloved daughter Margaret (LaFleur) Asadoorian of Vassalboro ME, sister Debbie (Myrick) Martin, and many nieces and nephews. Letters may be sent to Margaret at 328 Main St., Vassalboro ME  04989.
